W zależności od liczby warstw folii poliwynylowo-butyrtalowej i liczby warstw szkła takie szyby nazywamy bezpiecznymi (po pęknięciu nie rozsypują się, nie grożą pokaleczeniem - klasa 02), antywłamaniowymi (odporne na przebicie i rozbicie, z zastosowaniem do witryn sklepów itp. - klasy P3), kuloodporne (odporne na wystrzał pistoletowy, z zastosowaniem do kantorów, banków itp. - klasy P6).
